EWB-DK Appoints Former Senior Advisor from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark as New Secretary-General

Peter Horne Zartsdahl has been appointed to lead the Engineers Without Borders - Denmark (EWB-DK).

"In our search for a candidate who could bring inclusive leadership, development experience, and familiarity with our partner countries we found Peter, who has exceeded our expectations." shares Erland Stubkjær Christensen, head of the selection committee and vice-chairman of EWB-DK.

As the Secretary-General of EWB-DK, Peter Horne Zartsdahl will be responsible for the overall management and development of our organization with a special focus on strengthening external communication and expanding the geographical footprint in the coming years. He will also lead the daily management of the secretariat's six employees and our 200 volunteers.

Peter Horne Zartsdahl brings extensive experience in leading international teams in sustainable capacity building, ranging from practical project management in short-term advisory missions to strategic programming, political collaboration with partner countries, and international donor coordination. Peter brings in a vast professional network in Denmark, the EU, and Africa, making him a great fit for EWB-DK

Peter Horne Zartsdahl joins EWB-DK from a position as a senior adviser in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark. For the last five years, he has led an international advisory team in Nairobi, covering ten countries in the Horn of Africa. Previously, he worked for the UN mission in South Sudan, responsible for national coordination of civil assistance, and as a research team leader on the EU’s common foreign and security policy in Africa. After eight years in Central and Eastern Africa, Peter has returned to Denmark with his family, where his eldest son is soon to start school. He holds a degree in Global Politics from Roskilde University and in African Studies from the University of Copenhagen.

EWB-DK's vice-chairman, Erland Stubkjær Christensen, anticipates a fruitful collaboration with Peter: "With his deep understanding of international development, technical capacity building, and advisory services, Peter is a tremendous asset to EWB. We aim to continue our strategic development as an organisation, and Peter, with his extensive network and international perspective, is the ideal helmsman for this."

Peter Horne Zartsdahl assumed his position on April 2, 2024. Peter is succeeding acting Secretary-General Ida Eddy Sørensen who after 1,5 years as a programme adviser and acting Secretary-General has chosen to embark on new adventures outside EWB. Ida will remain with EWB-DK to ensure a stable and thorough transition until May 31st.
