Who are we?
Engineers Without Borders Denmark (EWB) is looking for a Mission Coordinator for a maternity cover position to manage and support our missions, deployments and security work.
Engineers Without Borders is a technical-humanitarian organisation where volunteers with technical and other relevant skills contribute to better living conditions for vulnerable people through projects and emergency humanitarian responses. The secretariat works closely with volunteers, partners, companies and authorities to translate technical expertise into concrete humanitarian and development value.

Period: 1 August – 4 December

About the position
As Mission Coordinator during the maternity cover, your primary task will be to ensure the stable operation of EWB Denmark’s missions and deployments. The position has an operational focus: you will manage, plan, coordinate and follow up on missions — not develop or optimise EWB’s mission systems.
You will play a central role in EWB’s Duty of Care work for volunteers and staff who travel and are deployed on behalf of the organisation. This includes mission preparation, travel and security briefings, risk and vulnerability assessments, situation analyses, advice, return processes and support for both planned and emergency missions.
The position has a particular focus on security in Ukraine. You must be able to deploy with teams, be on the ground with them, monitor alerts and recommend relevant responses. You must be able to make professional security assessments and decisions based on uncertain information and within limited timeframes.
Deployments to Africa can also be expected, including Ghana, Nigeria and Sierra Leone, among others.
You will become part of a small, close-knit secretariat, where you will work with colleagues responsible for development, humanitarian and organisational areas. You will work closely with the international project advisors, the response and project advisor and the Secretary General.
The position is supported by an intern who, among other things, assists with packing and preparation, analyses and practical ad hoc tasks.
The position is particularly relevant for someone who wants to challenge their profile, learn new things and gain valuable experience from the humanitarian sector — and from an organisation working at the forefront of new forms of close humanitarian cooperation with industry and authorities.
Period and handover
The maternity cover runs from 1 August to 4 December.
In August, a handover period will be carried out with 2–3 planned handover sessions with the outgoing Mission Coordinator.
The first week of December will be set aside for handing the role back to the original Mission Coordinator.
Your tasks
You will, among other things:

- Deploy with teams to Ukraine and be present with the teams during missions.
- Be able to participate in deployments to Africa, including Ghana, Nigeria and Sierra Leone, among other countries.
Security and risk management
- Support and report to the Secretary General regarding the safety and security of volunteers on travels and missions.
- Prepare and apply risk and vulnerability assessments, situation analyses and relevant security assessments.
- Monitor the security situation in relevant mission areas, particularly Ukraine.

- Use local partners and networks as part of the safety and security work.
- Recommend security-related responses and adjustments during missions.
- Make security-related decisions under time pressure and on the basis of incomplete information.
- Conduct travel and security briefings for volunteers and staff.
Training and capacity building
- Deliver EWB Denmark’s standard presentations and training activities, including information meetings, deployment courses, as well as workshops and presentations for corporate partners and other cooperation partners.
Collaboration, learning and development
- Work closely with the secretariat’s development and humanitarian specialists.
- Be able to adapt security requirements and procedures to humanitarian considerations in order to optimise task delivery.

- You are open to feedback and actively use it to develop your work.
