This is what EWB’s Secretary General, Peter Horne Zartsdahl, said in an interview with TV2 Bornholm on the third anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine.
He discussed EWB’s targeted response efforts in Ukraine, designed to quickly address acute technical-humanitarian needs. The program allows for rapid crisis response through short-term missions of under six months, where volunteer technical experts are deployed for 1–2 weeks at a time. This flexible approach ensures we can quickly mobilize the necessary expertise to provide advice, preparedness, training, and education—exactly where it is needed most.
“Russian forces have systematically targeted Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure. When water, electricity, and heating are cut off, it affects families and entire communities. The least we can do is help wherever we can.”
One example is the heating infrastructure in Mykolaiv, recently hit by drone attacks. With support from our corporate partners, EWB was on the ground within days to assess the damage and provide rapid technical solutions. This demonstrates how, in close collaboration with our partners, we can respond quickly and deploy technical expertise when it matters most.
