An Important Step Toward Clean Water in Sierra Leone
Our volunteers Claus Slavensky, Jens Erik Treldal, Sebastian Preston-Jensen, and Kristian Nissen have just returned from Sierra Leone, where they worked in the initial phase of a new project focused on rehabilitating water towers. Based on the knowledge and experience they brought back, the next phases of the project can now move forward.
One of the first things you notice when visiting Sierra Leone is the widespread lack of clean drinking water. While water towers are often centrally located in many villages, they are frequently in poor condition or simply not functioning. As a result, locals must travel to neighboring villages, wells, or rivers to collect water. This is a physically demanding task, and once home, another challenge arises: the water is often unsafe and can make people sick.
That’s why EWB Denmark is now collaborating with Grundfos to develop a locally rooted approach for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining water towers.
