Remote support & innovation

Humanitarian Assistance Technology Lab

Humanitarian Assistance Technology Lab (HATL) is Engineers Without Borders’ new innovation group, working to explore how emerging technologies can strengthen humanitarian response and reconstruction efforts in crisis-affected areas.

The group brings together volunteers with technical expertise in fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), drones, extended reality (XR), 3D technology, and digital tools. The goal is to develop and test solutions that can make emergency response faster, more efficient, and safer — both for deployed engineers and for the local communities we work with.

HATL operates as an innovation laboratory, where we translate advanced technologies into practical and responsible solutions that create tangible value in the field.

With HATL, we strengthen EWB’s ambition to stay at the forefront of humanitarian engineering and to create new opportunities for sustainable assistance in complex crisis situations.
