An important theme for us this year was emergency preparedness. Among other things, our Mission Coordinator Lasse Oszadlik took part in the debate “You or Your Neighbour? The Dilemmas of Emergency Preparedness,” while our Secretary General Peter Horne Zartsdahl participated in “A Breakdown of Critical Infrastructure – Hour by Hour.” Both debates focused on how societies, authorities, professionals and citizens can best prepare for crises.
In the many conversations at Folkemødet — both big and small — we were generally met with great curiosity about the work of Engineers Without Borders Denmark. And we were happy to talk about the enormous efforts of our volunteers, as well as the role of engineering expertise around the world, both when critical infrastructure fails and in cooperation to create more long-term change.
After long days of debates, networking and tired feet, the team returned to maximum hygge at the IUG camp on Mission Coordinator Lasse’s farm. Here, everyone recharged among chickens, barn showers, beautiful nature and good conversations under the open sky … perhaps with a beer or two.
The trip offered everything that makes Folkemødet so special: community and informal encounters across sectors and networks.
Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a wonderfully cosy and educational trip to Bornholm 💚

In full swing on the way to Folkemødet.
Hygge at the IUG camp on Lasse’s farm.
There were debates, including on emergency preparedness, with Lasse and Peter.
IUG volunteers Tine and Birgitte in good company with former U.S. Ambassador to Denmark Rufus Gifford, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Denmark Andrii Yanevskyi and the Mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Senkevych.
There was also time for hygge, quizzes and other fun activities.
And the shirts were proudly shown off.
There was also time for a bit of sightseeing on the island.
Thank you for a great Folkemødet!
