When extreme cold hits Ukraine and the heat supply fails, buildings face the risk of severe frost damage to their installations. Burst pipes can lead to permanent damage and, in the worst cases, leave buildings impossible to heat.
That is why Engineers Without Borders Denmark has supported the Red Cross in specifying and designing a new solution for a mobile heating unit. Our dedicated volunteers stepped in at short notice when an urgent need arose.
“The mobile heating units make a real difference, as they can be deployed quickly in areas where it is necessary to maintain a minimum temperature in the heating pipes. This helps prevent frost damage that could otherwise result in extensive and permanent damage to buildings,” says IUG’s Simon Grønne Nielsen about the heating units, which are now part of the Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response capacity.
