HATL works at the intersection of emerging technologies and practical field needs. We support project teams by translating real-world challenges into reliable, ready-to-use technical solutions.
The team brings together volunteers with expertise in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), drones, extended reality (XR), 3D technologies, sensors, and digital tools. While we explore new technologies, our core focus is ensuring that solutions are robust, usable, and adapted to the realities of working in complex environments.
Our goal is simple: to reduce friction, uncertainty, and costly mistakes related to technical equipment, so project teams can focus on their core engineering work.
HATL supports Engineers Without Borders by:
- identifying and assessing relevant technologies (tech scouting and screening)
- recommending and sourcing appropriate equipment
- testing and validating solutions before deployment
- delivering complete, ready-to-use hardware kits — including accessories and offline documentation
- offering training to ensure solutions can be used without requiring technical specialists in the field
Examples of solutions include:
- data collection using sensors
- drones and 3D scanning for mapping and documentation
- power and charging solutions (e.g. solar and power banks)
- connectivity in low-resource or remote environments
- remote support through live video from field equipment
